Wow that's a bummer. Completely understand but your writing will be really missed. I always felt I was underpaying considering the quality of analysis and I haven't found anything remotely comparable. Best of luck with everything Matt and hopefully you'll write more soon!
Sorry to see you go Mate but understand absolutely. Would have liked your views on coaching but I know many people who are jaded by tennis. It seems to be that people are forgetting to watch it for the joy of the sport and spending too much time criticising negatively the young people who try so hard to entertain us.
Matt, I nearly stopped in my tracks when my Gmail notification lit up. The time I spent reading your pieces the last 2.5 years felt like an oasis in an otherwise chaotic life; for those 10 minutes (or whatever), I knew I would be reading pure, unadulterated tennis content, the likes of which everyone here knows cannot be found elsewhere. The analysis was insightful, crisp, and well-written.
So, for all of that, thank you. And, if down the road you decide to resurrect the Racquet, I would happy to try my hand at being an understudy.
"No matter who you are, where you come from, what your experience level is, you are eternally welcome in tennis. Please remember that above all else I’ve written."
Thank you so much for this, Matt. I'll really miss opening my inbox on Thursdays and Sundays to see a new piece from the Racquet, but you've given us so much already, and frankly, doing a biweekly publication by oneself (to say nothing of doing it at an extremely high level) is an insane amount of work. Take care! Whatever you are up to now or next I hope you find the joy, energy, and excitement that you felt was missing recently and that you deserve. All the best
"Writing was only accidentally part of my life after all" And we all have benefited of this glorious accident. I gonna miss reading you. You really amplified my tennis life as a fan, knowing how to put in words what I was feeling without being able to express it. Thank you for having been technical without being boring, opiniated without being stubborn or closed-minded, unbiaised, witty, amf for loving this sport so much. Wishing you all the best for what to come and hoping to read more of you some day.
I’m an OG subscriber, so this is the second time I’ve opened an email to news that The Racquet is no more. I’m no less disappointed this time around - the content stands alone from a quality perspective. Matt - I wish you well with the hiatus and for the future in general. I have a feeling (and a hope) that the tennis world hasn’t seen the last of you.
You were one of the first Substacks I subscribed to. Appreciate the time and dedication you've put into The Racquet and I'll miss your writing. Good luck in your next endeavor!!!!

Sad to see you taking a break from The Racquet. I thoroughly enjoyed your coverage of both particular matches/players' styles and problems of tennis industry.
Wish you all the best and hope you will be back soon.
Thank you for the analysis so far, and we would like only to read articles from a fully motivated and energetic Matt ;) Best of luck on whatever you plan for in the future !!
I will miss your pieces Matt. Feel free to come back whenever you feel recharged and motivated. I’ve had tons of fun reading your stuff. Be well

Matt, I'll miss you, of course. But you have to do what is right for you. Take care of yourself, and all best wishes for whatever you do in future.

Thanks for everything, Matt, your work played a *huge* part in me finally investing in this sport, and for that I will be forever grateful :)
